Mary's visit to Elizabeth makes way for the Lord's coming

Mary visits Elizabeth and Zechariah as soon as the Angel Gabriel informs Mary of her Immaculate Conception.

The events that unfold in Elizabeth’s house are the mysteries that engulf Mary’s visit!

Imagine, Mary is still not sure of her pregnancy. The angel has only given her the news. Surprisingly, when she enters Elizabeth’s house and greets her, the baby in Elizabeth’s womb makes some movements.

Elizabeth is then filled with the Holy Spirit. She exclaims in Luke 1: 39-45; “You are the most blessed of all women and blessed is the child you will bear! Why should this great thing happen to me, that my Lord’s mother comes to visit me? For as soon as I heard your greeting, the baby within me jumped with gladness. How happy you are to believe that the Lord’s message to you will come true!”

Mary gets bewildered and begins to praise the Lord.

The experience is a beautiful scene that is more of a spiritual happening than real life.

When Mary visits Elizabeth, little mysteries unfold in the process.

  • The baby leaps in Elizabeth’s womb only after Mary greets her.
  • Mary visits Elizabeth accompanied by the Holy Spirit.
  • Mary joyfully praises the Lord.

This is the second joyful mystery. It is one of the major reasons Catholics honor Mother Mary.

Now, let us get into the details of the little mysteries within the second joyful mystery.

The Baby Leaps in Elizabeth’s Womb

Angel Gabriel visits Zechariah before he appears to Mary.

The Holy Spirit in Mary is in communication with the baby in Elizabeth’s womb, thus the movement.

The angel had earlier promised Zechariah that he will get a son and name him John. He also indicated that John will be filled with the Holy Spirit right from his birth (Luke 1: 15)

Mary visits Elizabeth. Through her mere greeting, the baby receives the Holy Spirit while in Elizabeth’s womb!

Angel Gabriel’s message to Zechariah comes true in his wife Elizabeth.

The presence of Mary and the power of the Holy Spirit are inseparable!

Mary Visits Elizabeth Accompanied by the Holy Spirit

Mary visits Elizabeth to bring the joy of the Holy Spirit into Elizabeth’s home! Elizabeth talks from a spiritual realm when she begins to call Mary the mother of God!

Who told her Mary was the mother of God?

Nobody!

As at the time Mary visits Elizabeth, Elizabeth only knows of Angel Gabriel’s visit to her husband. Mary and Elizabeth have not mingled yet. The Lord’s moment has taken control of them.

Mary has not told about her encounter with the Angel Gabriel to Elizabeth!

But here she is calling Mary the mother of God!

Elizabeth blesses the child Mary will bear even without her knowing Mary would get pregnant!

It is an amazing presence of the Holy Spirit through the presence of Mary!

Mary Joyfully Praises the Lord for Affirmation

Elizabeth is like a prophet to Mary. She praises Mary for believing the Lord’s message!

Mary gets so happy with the Lord that she cannot hide it. She praises the Lord for blessing her and proceeds to stay in Elizabeth’s house for three months.

Why does Mary stay in Elizabeth’s house for three months?

Now, this is one of the reasons Catholics believe in the power of Mary.

Mary’s presence runs in tandem with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Mary visits Elizabeth to instill the Holy Spirit in the unborn John, which transcends to Elizabeth! She also ensures the Holy Spirit dwells in Elizabeth’s home!

Mary Delivers Our Goals

Mary visits Elizabeth and stays in her home to make sure God’s plan succeeds.

Mary’s presence in our homes brings life to situations we undergo and ensures the Lord’s plan for us takes effect.

In Elizabeth’s case, Mary leaves after completing the assignment. We get the concept that she needs to be with us always. She has numerous assignments to accomplish in our lives.

We are vulnerable to life’s challenges which can come up one after another. Her involvement in our lives streamlines the issues we face.

The first half of the “Hail Mary” prayer comes from Angel Gabriel and Elizabeth’s words to Mary.

Mary’s works are often invisible. She is a hidden treasure. Mary is a valuable helper we always need in our homes.
